An Invitation from Andy McKee

I’m very happy to invite guitar players of all ages, skill levels, and interests to join me at Andy McKee’s Musicarium 2022, taking place July 18-22, 2022 at Cambria Pines Lodge in Cambria, CA. Together, we’ll take part in immersive workshops, group classes, mentor sessions, intimate concerts, and other activities focusing on modern guitar playing and performing.

It’s been interesting being at home so much, being Mr. Mom and spending time with my kids, However, I’m excited to be getting back at it, doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I’ve got a new record out, and I’ve already been playing shows all over the country. We had to take a year off from the camp, but we picked right back up with Musicarium 2021, which was really an incredible experience. Every instructor and every student, they all came to me and said we needed exactly this kind of thing, to be able to share music and stories, to show people how we do the things we do. Just getting that time together with like-minded people, it was one of the greatest moments of the whole year for sure. For me, maybe the best.

Our 2022 lineup of guest instructors come from very diverse backgrounds and each offer unique approaches all their own. Mike Dawes, Trevor Gordon Hall, Calum Graham, and Billy McLaughlin are all good friends and Musicarium veterans that have each really developed their own individual sound. This is the first time we’ve been able to have Christie Lenée join us and I’m happy to have her. She’s such a unique voice, she’s going to bring something very special and very different from what everybody else does.

Everybody that we have come to teach at Musicarium has their own approach, and their own way of playing the acoustic guitar. We place a lot of emphasis at the camp on the theme of creativity. We try to guide people onto their own path with these different techniques and different ways of playing the guitar. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to create some music of your own with these ideas.

There are no rules to this style of playing. It’s really a free interpretation of how to play the guitar. All of us are using different guitar tunings and techniques. Everyone develops their own sound, which what’s really beautiful about this style, all these individual personalities coming up with their own ideas and ways of expression on the guitar. And that’s what we focus on at Musicarium.

Our goal is to make Musicarium a great environment. We want everybody relaxed and comfortable so they can really immerse themselves in music. We try to make it really welcoming for everyone. There’s no air of competition. There are a few people that have been every single one of my camps, some people that have been to multiple ones, and of course new people every year. It’s just been going so well, and I am proud of that. We get more and more people with every camp, so I guess we’re doing something right.

I can’t wait for Musicarium 2022. I hope you’ll join us!
