An Invitation from Andy McKee

I’d like to update all of my guitar-playing friends and family about Andy McKee’s Musicarium 2021. Due to various complications because of the current COVID crisis, it is now taking place July 22-26, 2021 at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Rosa, CA. This is a deluxe hotel in the heart of wine country and we are so excited to be going there.

Also, we have a new team of incredible instructors in addition to some of our old friends. The new lineup includes Yvette Young, Guitaro 5000, plus our old friends Trevor Gordon Hall Michael Manring, and our very special guest from Australia who is the greatest fingerstyle player on the planet (to be formally announced soon)!

Players of all ages, skill levels, and interests are invited to join me and some of my favorite guitar instructors for an immersive four days of workshops, mentor sessions, intimate performances, and other fun activities.

I believe last year’s Musicarium was our biggest and best so far. We had the perfect mix of instructors, teaching different techniques and approaches to playing acoustic guitar. THIS YEAR SHOULD BE EVEN BETTER! The response from the campers was so great; we thought we’d just keep it going.. We all use the more modern acoustic guitar techniques that have become the cutting edge over the last 20 years or so, but we all use them in different ways – to come up with different musical ideas and approach writing in a different way.

Each year we try to learn a little more about what people want to get out of the camp. Some people are really into the instructional part of it; other people don’t want it to be that intense. We try to create a good balance by doing some things are simply fun, activities we can all do together in the evening. It’s not just strictly learning all day and then grinding and practicing in the evenings. We want Musicarium to be as fun as it is educational. The ultimate goal for us is to help you find your own voice with the guitar and with friends.

Every night, we’ll have concerts after dinner where the instructors will get a chance to play for the student body. There are open student performances, so campers who feel like getting up and playing for everybody are welcome to do so. We’ll even have a student/teacher concert where you can share the stage with one of the teachers. The concerts are one of my personal favorite parts about Musicarium. Someone will get up and play something amazing and my jaw will be on the floor, thinking, ‘Wow! I’ve never heard anybody play quite like that!’ So, we all get to get inspired at the camp, teachers included.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when we started Musicarium. I was hoping for the best – I thought, maybe we’ll get a few people to show up! But it just keeps getting bigger each year. I’m so grateful for it and look forward to it every year. I love getting to meet new students and also see some guitar player friends of mine that otherwise I wouldn’t get to see except maybe once a year. But now we all get together at Andy McKee’s Musicarium, learn a lot, make music together, and have a great time. It’s simply amazing seeing people from all over the world to come together to learn, play and hang. I hope this year you’ll join us.

Yer Pal,
Andy McKee
