An Invitation From Rodney Crowell

Fellow songwriters, I’m happy to invite you to join us at It Starts With A Song 2023! This year’s event will take place from August 21st to 24th at Scarritt Bennett in Nashville.

At It Starts With A Song, you will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with some of the most accomplished songwriters and musicians in the industry. Whether you are a seasoned professional or just starting out, we have something for everyone.

We are honored to have the legendary John Hiatt as our special guest this year, along with talented artists such as John Paul White, Bill Payne, Gretchen Peters, and many more. We are also excited to welcome back some familiar faces to the faculty, including the legendary Peter Asher, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Lera Lynn, and Joe Henry. There will also be past event participants whose progress as songwriters has earned them a place on the team as honorary instructors.

Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable long weekend of songwriting, music, creativity, and community. It’ll be as much fun as it is instructive.

All best,

Rodney Crowell

Schedule

It Starts With A Song will begin at 3PM on August 21 and will conclude around 11PM on August 24. The camp schedule is subject to change. You will be provided with an updated schedule upon check-in. Also, we will post the daily schedule in the dining hall in case there are last-minute updates.

At this years event, Rodney would like to do things a bit differently than in the past……We will be starting the event with an open mic for the entire camp where we will ask everyone to perform one original song for the entire Faculty and campers. (or if you are a lyricist, or prefer not to perform you can play a recording or read lyrics). This will take about a day!

Once everyone has performed or presented a work, Rodney and the Faculty will be assigning the Campers into “breakout groups” that will then rotate between workshops led by each Faculty for the duration of the camp. Each of these breakout groups will be customized to ensure that they are all vibrant, nurturing, and vital.
