Joe Satriani’s G4 Experience 2017

The G4 Experience is an event for players and music-lovers of all ages, levels, interests, and taste! Whether you are a master player, a beginner, or just an enthusiastic fan, our four day programs offer activities and workshops for you. Our environments are non-competitive and are strictly about immersing oneself in the joys of music and our lovely surroundings!

Activities Include:

  • Daily workshops with Joe
  • Recording with John Cuniberti
  • Nightly concerts with Joe, his band, and very special guests!
  • Performing songs from SWTA with Joe’s band on the big stage!
  • Guitar maintenance sessions with Joe’s personal guitar tech!
  • Workshops from our all-star instructors
  • Jamming every night
  • …and so much more!

We are very excited about our very first, one of a kind, guitar camp mash up!

This summer, both Joe Satriani and Tommy Emmanuel (tommyemmanuelguitarcampusa.com) will be leading their guitar retreats at the same place, at the same time!

Here’s how it will run- During the mornings and days, both events will be entirely separate. Tommy and his incredible team of instructors will be leading their workshops exclusively for the people who have signed up for Tommy’s camp. At the same time, in separate facilities, Joe and his once in a lifetime team will be leading their workshops for those signed up for G4.

But at night, it will get interesting! That is when we will open up the concerts and jamming so anyone can go to any activity they’d like. Each night will feature distinct concerts by the instructors from both camps, plus camper jamming, singing around the bonfire, and open mic concerts. And on the last night, we will feature a once in a lifetime concert for everyone with Joe and Tommy together!

An Invitation from Joe Satriani

“Each year, the G4 Experience evolves. It’s like a rock ‘n’ roll show, so you hit the ground running, adapt, and improve every hour it’s going. That’s what makes it fun! For 2017, things are evolving yet again. 2017 is the actually the 30th anniversary of my album Surfing with the Alien—if you can’t believe it’s been this long, imagine how I feel! That ignited something of a creative firestorm when we began thinking about the G4 Experience, and we decided to focus the camp on Surfing with the Alien.

From July 24-28 at the Asilomar Center in gorgeous Carmel, CA, I’ll be hosting JOE SATRIANI’S G4 EXPERIENCE 2017: SURFING WITH THE ALIEN 30th ANNIVERSARY.

“From July 24-28 at the Asilomar Center in gorgeous Carmel, CA, I’ll be hosting Joe Satriani’s G4 Experience 2017: Surfing with the Alien 30th Anniversary.

“When I look back on the album, it’s a celebratory record of the rock ‘n’ roll I love—from Chuck Berry to Jimi Hendrix. It’s very inclusive and broad in styles. That inclusivity is a signature of G4. Now, we want to give you the ultimate window into this record. No matter where I go, fans always bring up Surfing with the Alien. I love talking about it and sharing these stories. The goal is to satiate every curiosity you may have on your mind!

“At the same time, it will be everything campers love about the G4 Experience. After breakfast, classes will start in the morning. It’s your opportunity to ask any and all questions about the album! We’ll have dinner, and then I’ll be performing in front of a very small audience. Afterwards, you can spend the rest of the night jamming until you’re too tired to play anymore, of course. The interaction between campers and musicians is a cornerstone of the event. That’s such a key element, which I really cherish. You’re going to get that bond.

“As with every G4 Experience, 2017 will be all-encompassing. The memory is something people can take with them and treasure. That’s the spiritual side of what we do. I’m committed to making sure we answer all of your questions about everything from scales and chords to guitar strings and pickups, but it’s also about enjoying these four days together. You get the chance to learn in a party atmosphere, hang in a beautiful location, make great friends, and leave a better player than when you arrived.

“Can’t wait to see you and go Surfing with the Alien again…”

Sincerely,
Joe Satriani

Surfers

To dig into Surfing with the Alien’s every nook and cranny, I’m inviting some very special guests who have figured prominently in my history and journey. For the first time since 1995, Stu Hamm and Jonathan Mover will be my live band during the camp! It’s such a cool reunion. They were my live band on the tours behind Surfing with the Alien when I started my career as an instrumentalist playing live. The three of us have such an interesting bond. I can’t wait to rekindle it. In addition, we’re going to have some other very special guests who are not only incredible musicians but longtime friends! My Surfing with the Alien partner-in-crime producer John Cuniberti will also be joining. He’s going to sit down with me in front of our campers and go over everything that’s on their minds about the record.

    Check Out

A more detailed schedule will be released in June, 2017.

Schedule subject to change.

Location

Carmel is one of the most beautiful Northern California cities. The town is truly a jewel. I moved to the state from New York in the late seventies, and I’ve always been very enthralled with the Northern California coast. There’s a magical quality to it. I don’t even know how to explain it! When we do the G4 Experience, we hope to draw upon some kind of energy from the location. I think everyone will feel that. Also, we’re only two hours from where we recorded Surfing with the Alien in San Francisco.

[Surfing with the Alien] put Satriani on the map. Beautifully played and well-paced, it manages to capture all the icy fire of fusion jazz without losing any of the visceral power of rock & roll…
